Deadline.com reports that 'Dream On,' a teen musical dance film, is set to begin production later this year through Mandate Pictures. The film will center on a teenage gymnast who aims for Olympic gold but is thwarted by an injury. In downtown Atlanta, GA, she then discovers a passion for hip-hop dance.
Thomas Carter ('Swing Kids,' 'Save the Last Dance,' 'Coach Carter') will direct the film and join with Laurence Mark ('Dreamgirls,' 'Glitter,' 'Center Stage') in producing. The script has been penned by newcomer Jason Ubaldi. The film will be distributed internationally by Lionsgate.
An entity acquired by Lionsgate, Mandate's 2010 slate also includes 'The Switch,' starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, slated for an August 2010 release by Miramax Films; and the 'Untitled Comedy' starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen and directed by Jonathan Levine. Recently released films include Drew Barrymore's directorial debut 'Whip It,' starring Academy Award® nominee Ellen Page, Academy Award® nominee Marcia Gay Harden and Kristin Wiig, which was distributed by Fox Searchlight.
