According to Deadline.com, Dreamworks has entered negotiations with John Steinbeck's estate for the rights to create a new version of THE GRAPES OF WRATH, which was last adapted for the big screen by John Ford in 1940. Steven Spielberg is interested in producing the new film.

The 75th anniversary of Steinbeck's novel is next year. The story follows a family of Oklahoma farmers, the Joads,who must leave their current farm due to drought and economic struggles. The family travels to California in hopes of a better start but faces poverty in the face of the Great Depression.
Spielberg is currently producing the next Transfomers film, Robopocalypse, Interstellar, The Adventures of TinTin: Prisoners of the Sun, American Sniper, Jurassic Park IV, When Worlds Collide, Real Steel 2, The Hundred-Foot Journey and more.
