Singer-songwriter Natalie Maines, who won 13 Grammy Awards as part of the country music act the Dixie Chicks, was never a big fan of the genre, she tells Lee Cowan in interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH Charles Osgood to be broadcast today, May 12, 2013 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
"No, it burned my ears," Maines tells Cowan, while laughing. The Dixie Chicks, which includes sisters Emily Erwin and Martie Maguire, were critical darlings until 2003 when, while performing in London, Maines took a verbal jab at President Bush over the war in Iraq. She later apologized, but the band's draw was never the same. Three years later, however, they produced another Grammy-winning album. "When I went backstage after that, I don't know, I just was crying uncontrollably and I didn't know why," Maines says. "And looking back, I mean, it kind of Felt like an end to a chapter."Videos
