Rentrak (RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top ten digital movie purchases and rentals of the first half of 2014 based on consumer transaction rate. The report includes Internet Video on Demand (iVOD) and electronic sell-through (EST), for both standard-definition and digital HD movie purchases and rentals.
Disney's "Frozen," which won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, was the number one digital download for the first half of 2014. Lionsgate's highly successful film and franchise "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" landed at the second position. Although Universal titles are excluded from the charts, Universal ranked as the number one studio for movies purchased and rented digitally in the first half of 2014 based on overall transactions and retail revenue.
"Electronic sell-through and Internet Video on Demand continued to see notable growth in the first half of 2014, largely driven by highly popular films which are demonstrating strong and unwavering performance in the first six months of 2014 via the digital download platform," says Chris Roberts, Rentrak's Senior Vice President of Sales, OnDemand Everywhere.
