Disney Music Group is thrilled to announce the launch of a new podcast series, Disney - A Recorded History.

Produced and hosted by Grammy Award®-winning Producer and Disney Music Historian, Randy Thornton, this series features rare and never-before-released recordings that have shaped Disney's musical legacy over the past 100 years. The series has 12 episodes, varying in length from 8 to 25 minutes. The first three episodes are available today on SpotifyApple MusicAmazon Music and other digital platforms. Additional episodes will be released on Thursdays beginning June 13.

Disney – A Recorded History explores Disney music milestones such as Steamboat Willie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Mary Poppins. The podcast series features archival audio of Walt Disney himself speaking about sound recordings and music in film and media, as well as insights from legendary animators Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston. It also includes contributions from acclaimed musician Henry Mancini and the legendary Sherman Brothers, Richard M. Sherman, and Robert B. Sherman, the songwriting duo behind some of Disney’s most beloved music.

Descriptions for the first three episodes follow:

1. Mickey Squeaks (14:09)

Walt Disney recounts the trials of recording the first cartoon with synchronized sound– Steamboat Willie.

2. Silly Skeletons (14:48)

Walt Disney recalls the first Silly Symphony – The Skeleton Dance and musician Carl Stalling

3. When Pigs Sing (7:23)

Walt Disney explains how Three Little Pigs’ “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” became Disney’s first hit song.
