Production has begun in Dublin, Ireland, on THE HAPPY HUGGLEMONSTERS, an animated series to premiere on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks in more than 150 countries next year. The series is produced by Brown Bag Films (two-time Academy Award nominee for “Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty” and “Give Up Yer Aul Sins”) and follows the adventures of spirited, five-year-old Henry Hugglemonster, the middle child in a family of fun-loving monsters.
“The Happy Hugglemonsters” is the second Disney Junior series produced by Brown Bag Films, which is also in production on the series “Doc McStuffins,” set to premiere on Disney Junior in 2012.
Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide, said, “We are so excited to be working with our Disney Junior UK team and our friends at Brown Bag Films once again. ‘The Happy Hugglemonsters’ is our third UK original production and is a testament to our commitment to find talent around the world and bring fresh stories and beautiful animation to our global audience of kids and families.”
Based on the book series I’m a Happy Hugglewug by Niamh Sharkey, the animation for “The Happy Hugglemonsters” retains the illustration style of the books. Each 22-minute episode features two stories that transport young viewers into the world of Henry Hugglemonster as he guides the audience through the ups and downs of being part of a loving, bustling monster family.
“The Happy Hugglemonsters” is directed by Emmy Award-winning director Norton Virgien (“Rugrats,” “Doc McStuffins”), the lead writer is Sascha Paladino (“Wonder Pets,” “Ni-Hao Kai-Lan”), and the series is produced by Gillian Higgins (“Doc McStuffins,” “Octonauts”).

Disney Junior’s animated and live action series blend Disney’s unparalleled storytelling and characters kids love deeply with learning, including early math, language skills, healthy eating and lifestyles, and social skills. Disney Junior is available on basic cable in more than 99 million U.S. homes (via a daily block on Disney Channel) and to millions of other viewers on 28 Disney Junior channels (fka Playhouse Disney channels) and free-to-air broadcast partners around the world. It is also seen via subscription video-on-demand and a broadband website, DisneyJunior.com. In 2012 Disney Junior will add a basic cable and satellite channel in the U.S.
