Discovery en Español announced today that it has started the production of the second season of the highly rated series TEXAS TROCAS, a docu-reality that follows the Méndez, a Mexican-American family who began their trucking business 40 years ago with one big rig and a dream and which has grown to be one of the best in the country. The program is scheduled to air later this year during "Lunes de Motores" (Motor Monday), the network's popular Monday night programming block dedicated to automotive content.
Powered by a solid ratings performance, this 8-part original series was a major hit for the network in 2014 positioning it as #1 on Spanish language pay TV on Monday nights at 10 PM E/P among adults 18-49[1]. The show was also the top rated premiering series for the channel in 2014, with its first season achieving a viewership + 138% above the prior 6 weeks (A18-49) in its timeslot.
"We are thrilled to bring TEXAS TROCAS back to Discovery en Español for a second season. This show speaks to our viewers on so many different levels, from the ingenuity involved in the mega transformations of big rigs to the rich dynamics of the Mendez family," said Bilai Joa Silar, Vice President of Content for Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic. "It also pairs well with our top rated automotive programming that viewers have come to expect from the network."
TEXAS TROCAS centers on Raúl Méndez Senior and his wife, Lupita -- who are the heart and soul of the business known as Texas Chrome. Located just south of San Antonio, the company employs dozens of people and owns close to 100 trucks and Raúl Méndez Senior and Lupita, in partnership with their two sons, Raúl and Rolando, have carved out a very successful truck renovation business. The series originally premiered September 2, 2014 to kick off the network's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and extended through November 3. The series aired during the networks' top rated primetime block Lunes de Motores, which Discovery en Español introduced in early 2014.
The show is a production of Discovery Studios, LLC with Eddie Barbini (Dirty Jobs, Swamp Loggers and Manhunt) as the executive producer, under the supervision of Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic's Michela Giorelli, Vice President of Production and Development and Irune Ariztoy, Senior Producer.
