The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Jeremy Saulnier, director and executive producer hired to split the direction credit for Season 3 of the HBO series TRUE DETECTIVE with the show's creator, Nic Pizzolatto, has departed production after filming the first two episodes.

According to a statement from HBO, director Daniel Sackheim (FX The Americans) will step in to help Pizzolatto complete filming on season three.

The statement reads: "Director and executive producer Jeremy Saulnier has completed the first two episodes of TRUE DETECTIVE season 3 and will be departing the production due to scheduling issues. Daniel Sackheim has come on board as a director and executive producer for the series alongside series creator and director Nic Pizzolatto."

The long-awaited third season of the show stars Moonlight Oscar winner Mahershala Ali.

According to THR, Season three "tells the story of a strange crime in the heart of the Ozarks, a mystery that's said to deepen over decades and play out in three separate time periods."
