Diane Keaton to Accept Woody Allen's Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2014 Golden Globes

Deadline writes that filmmaker Woody Allen will not be attending the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards on January 12 and that actress and friend Diane Keaton will be accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award on his behalf.

"There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen," said Theo Kingma, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, announcing the award. "His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he truly is an international treasure."

Keaton and Allen are long-time friends who met in 1969 while working on the Broadway show Play It Again, Sam. They dated for five years and remain good friends today. Keaton has appeared in eight of Allen's films and won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her performance in Annie Hall in 1976.

The only awards show Allen ever attended was the Academy Awards in 2002. Allen has been nominated for 13 Golden Globes over the years, winning two, as well as 23 Oscar nominations -- including four wins.

Woody Allen is the prolific writer/director of over 45 films including such revered and iconic works as "Annie Hall," "Manhattan," "The Purple Rose of Cairo," and "Hannah and Her Sisters"; as well as recent critical and box office hits such as "Match Point," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," and "Midnight in Paris" for which he won both the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Screenplay - Motion Picture and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Allen's most recent film, "Blue Jasmine," is currently in theaters.

Chosen by the HFPA Board of Directors, the Cecil B. DeMille Award is given annually to the talented individuals who have made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment. Recent recipients include Jody Foster (2013), Morgan Freeman, (2012), Robert De Niro (2011), Martin Scorsese (2010), Steven Spielberg (2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Anthony Hopkins (2006), Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004), Gene Hackman (2003), Harrison Ford (2002), Al Pacino (2001), and Barbra Streisand (2000).
