Variety reports that casting for the upcoming film "The First Ride of Wyatt Earp" will include stage favorite Diana DeGarmo, as well as stage and screen star Val Kilmer. The series is based on the true story of Wyatt Earp, the western frontier sheriff and jack of all trades whose story has lasted generations.
DeGarmo first became a household name as a popular finalist on Season 3 of "American Idol." Theatre audiences may recognize her from her critically acclaimed turn as "Penny Pingleton" in Broadway's HAIRSPRAY, Sheila in the closing cast of HAIR, or as one of the stars of the first national tours of BROOKLYN: THE MUSICAL and 9 TO 5.
Val Kilmer starred as Moses in the critically-panned blockbuster musical The Ten Commandments, which opened in LA in September of 2004. Other theatre credits include the 1992 off-Broadway production of the Jacobean tragedy Tis Pity She's a Whore, and the role of Hotspur's Servant in a 1981 Shakespeare in the Park production of Henry IV Part 1. His many screen credits include Alexander, Wonderland, The Salton Sea, Pollock, At First Sight, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Heat, Batman Forever (in which he portrayed the Caped Crusader), The Doors (as Jim Morrison), and Top Gun, the role that brought him to public attention.
The film will also star Daniel Booko, Trace Adkins, Matt Dallas, and Wilson Bethel. Read the full Variety article here.
