According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dennis Quaid has inked a deal to play President Ronald Reagan in a film expected to begin shooting in the fall.
The long-in-the works feature film will explore Reagan's life from boyhood through his presidency - of both the U.S. and the Screen Actors Guild. David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place) will play Reagan in his youth. John Voight also has a role in the film.
The film is also expected to explore Reagan's time as governor of California, his role in the destruction of the Berlin Wall and his final days dealing with Alzheimer's disease. It will also delve a bit into John Hinckley Jr., whose obsession with actress Jodie Foster led to his attempted assassination of the Republican president in 1981.
"Reagan was a fascinating and multifaceted human being and this movie captures his humanity," Quaid said. "We're making a movie for Republicans and Democrats alike since Reagan transcends politics. I can't wait to get started."
Quaid first gained widespread attention in the 1980s, some of his notable credits include Breaking Away (1979), The Right Stuff (1983), Wyatt Earp (1994), The Parent Trap (1998), Frequency (2000), The Rookie (2002), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Vantage Point (2008), Footloose (2011), and Soul Surfer(2011). For his role in Far from Heaven (2002) he won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actor among other accolades. Other Credits include I Can Only Imagine, Vegas, A Dog's Purpose, and The Special Relationship.
