The Daytime Emmy® and Peabody Award-Winning PBS series A CHEF'S LIFE returns for a third season on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 8:00 p.m.and 8:30 p.m. on South Carolina ETV and PBS stations across the country throughout the fall (check local listings).
The character-driven docu-series takes viewers inside the life and kitchen of acclaimed Chef Vivian Howard and her restaurants located in the low country of eastern North Carolina. Season three of A CHEF'S LIFE finds Vivian, with husband Ben Knight and her twin children by her side, blending and balancing the high stakes of managing two restaurants, writing a new cookbook and tackling a family reunion feast, all while the farm-to-table chef's plate is packed with food festivals and competitions.
The 13-episode season continues Chef Vivian's exploration into both traditional and modern applications of quintessential Southern ingredients as she brings low country classics like SQUASH and onions, okra and pickled beets to the table, along with special local-favorite guests like the Grammy® Award-nominated Avett Brothers.
"We have been able to sample so many aspects of Southern cuisine, taking the show far beyond recipe and ingredient lists," said Chef Vivian Howard. "Ben and I are so grateful to the viewers and especially the Kinston community who have allowed us to share a slice of our lives and an absolute appreciation for fresh farm-to-table cooking."
"A Chef's Life has been a treat for viewers and the perfect entrée on the PBS programming menu these past two seasons," said Donald Thoms, Vice President of Programming at PBS. "We can't wait to see the amazing Southern-style dishes Chef Vivian has in store for us in season three."
Chef Vivian Howard originally made a name for herself in the competitive Manhattan restaurant world and with her own gourmet delivery service, but received an offer from her parents to help build her own restaurant - with one catch. She and Ben had to open it back home in eastern North Carolina, where Chef Vivian swore she would never return. With that, the famed restaurant Chef and the Farmer was born with the casual Boiler Room Oyster Bar following, and Kinston, N.C. has never been the same.
A Chef's Life is produced by Markay Media and Deep Run Productions for PBS in association with SCETV Presents. The series is directed and produced by Cynthia Hill with Vivian Howard as a producer and writer. Rex Miller is the cinematographer and co-producer with Selena Lauterer, Malinda Maynor Lowery and Ben Knight. Associate producers are Jenn Cromling and Shirlette Ammons, and the series is edited by Tom Vickers. The opening title song, "Will You Return," is written and performed by the Avett Brothers. Amy Shumaker is Executive-in-Charge for SCETV Presents. The program won a Peabody Award in 2014 and Daytime Emmy Award in 2015. It has also been nominated for several James Beard Awards.
