Patrick Marleau's two-goal performance helped Toronto defend home ice on Monday, as the Maple Leafs topped the Bruins, 4-2, in Game 3 to cut the series deficit in half. Marleau became the oldest player in franchise history to score a playoff goal, and it marked his ninth career multi-goal game in the postseason, which is second-most among active players (Sidney Crosby - 10). Toronto's defense held the combination of Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand to zero points, while second-year standout Auston Matthews recorded his first goal of the postseason.

Lars Eller netted the game-winner in double overtime on Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, to lift the Capitals past the Blue Jackets in Game 3 and cut the series deficit to 2-1. This is just the seventh postseason series in NHL history to begin with three consecutive overtime games. Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby made 33 saves and recorded his 30th career playoff win in his first start of the series, after Philipp Grubauerstarted Games 1 and 2. Artemi Panarin tallied a goal and an assist for Columbus in the loss, bringing his postseason total to a team-high seven points.
