Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet engaged the talents of Dawn Ford, one of Canada's preeminent actresses and voice over artists, for his upcoming 3D adventure THE YOUNG AND PRODIGIOUS SPIVET.
Based on Reif Larsen's novel "The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet", the film follows the story of a 12-year old mapmaker who secretly leaves his family in Montana to board a freight train and head for Washington, D.C., where he is to receive an award at the Smithsonian Institute.
Ford plays 'Marge', who Spivet meets along the way. Filming commenced in Alberta, Quebec and Washington, D.C. The production wrapped in October and is scheduled for release Oct. 23, 2013.
"Jean-Pierre is a true artist," Ford said. "Everything is so carefully crafted, from the costumes, to the set, hair, make-up, and especially the fabric of the characters themselves. He's an actor's dream to work with."
Newcomer Kyle Catlett plays 'Spivet'. "He's incredibly intelligent," Ford says, "a very natural talent."
Casting director Lucie Robitaille, who's worked with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, cast Ford for the film.
"Dawn immerses herself in roles in a way few others can," Robitaille said. "I cannot wait to see audiences' reactions to her performance."
Acting with Ford are "The King's Speech" Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter, Oscar nominee Judy Davis, bruising bad guy Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes, 300) and Gemini winner Callum Keith Rennie.
Ford's known for acting in "Human Trafficking," a socially conscious Primetime Emmy nominated miniseries.
She recently lent her voiceover talents as 'Tommy' in "Assassin's Creed III," the latest installment of Ubisoft's blockbuster video game franchise.
Ford performed opposite Emmy Award Winning Nathan Lane and with Academy Award winner Julia Roberts in "Mirror Mirror" and voiced the character 'Tayara' for the 2013 animated film 'Sarila' alongside Oscar winner Christopher Plummer.
Ford plays "Dr. Burke" in the upcoming zombie comedy "Warm Bodies," the next film from Jonathan Levine, director of the hit "50/50" starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick due out February 2013.
