Dave Attell and Comedy Central will be keeping fans up late into the night once again as the #1 brand in comedy is back in business with the iconic comic, ordering its first-ever uncensored, weekly late-night stand-up series and a one-hour original stand-up special, it was announced today by Kent Alterman, President, Content Development and Original Programming, COMEDY CENTRAL. The eight episode series and the one-hour stand-up special are executive produced by Attell and 3 Arts and set to premiere in 2014.
"When I was first approached for this, I thought someone said 'Dave Chappelle,' said Alterman. "I immediately said yes. I love Dave Attell, too, so it's fine."
The untitled late night stand-up series will be hosted by Attell and consist of eight half-hour episodes featuring him and his fellow comedians as never seen before: uncensored and unfiltered. The series will celebrate comics in their truest and most authentic form and will feature sets from up-and-coming talent as well as familiar faces in the comedy world as well as unscripted, interstitial moments throughout each episode.
In addition to the series,
Comedy Central has also ordered a one-hour stand-up special from Attell which will premiere next year.
Dave Attell is well-known to fans of stand-up for his caustic wit and choice of material -- which can best be described as "very adult" - earning him the reputation as a "comic's comic." Attell is also close to the hearts of fans of COMEDY CENTRAL, where his iconic, late-night travelogue series, "Insomniac with Dave Attell," aired for four successful seasons (2001-2004) and inspired several hour-long "Insomniac" specials. His other
Comedy Central projects have included the revival of "The Gong Show with Dave Attell" (2008), working as a contributor to "The Daily Show with
Jon Stewart," a frequent panelist on "Tough Crowd with
Colin Quinn," a "COMEDY CENTRAL Presents" stand-up special, several "COMEDY CENTRAL Live" nationwide stand-up tours and the release of his CD, "Skanks for the Memories" (2003) by
Comedy Central Records.
Attell has also made numerous appearances on "
Jimmy Kimmel Live!," "The Late Show with
David Letterman," "The Tonight Show with
Jay Leno," "Late Night with
Jimmy Fallon," "Conan," "The
Howard Stern Show" and "Later with
Carson Daly." He also appeared in
Chris Rock's cult film "Pootie Tang" and on FOX's "Arrested Development." Attell's last stand-up special, "Captain Miserable" (2007) premiered on
HBO and his series, "Dave's Old Porn," recently ran for two seasons on
Showtime and continues today at http://www.davesoldporn.com. When not on the road, Attell makes regular appearances at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.
