On tonight's DANCING WITH THE STARS Results Show, two of the remaining nine couples will have to face off in the first time ever "Dance Duel". For the next three weeks, the bottom two couples dance the same dance to the same tune at the same time on a split screen. The judges may then decide to override the viewer vote to keep the star they believed performed best on the show.
According to executive producer Conrad Green, the intention of the dance-off is to prevent talented contestants such as past dancers Sabrina Bryan, Kristin Cavallari, and Chynna Phillips, from being sent home prematurely. "To be honest, I'm not sure we can ever get this right," says Green, "because we'll have people complaining about the judges throwing people out. But for now, we'll play it by ear."
Contestants and their professional dance partners expressed disappoinment with the new elimination system. Said pro Kym Johnson, "I don't like it. I think it puts added pressure, and you have to learn another dance."
Disney star Roshon Fegan, who landed in the bottom two last week, commented, "I'm dreading it in that I don't want to do it. I don't want to be in the bottom two again. But it's another chance to dance. And that's what we're here to do: Dance."
