According to the New York Times Arts Beat blog, Adult Swim has ordered a new animated series from Dan Harmon, creator and former showrunner of NBC's comedy 'Community.'
The cable channel revealed on Monday that it had picked up RICK & MORTY, a new animated series created Harmon and Justin Roiland, a writer, performer and voice actor on “Fish Hooks,” and “Adventure Time”. In an e-mail, Adult Swim described the new series as “a 30-minute animated series that follows a genius inventor grandfather and his less than genius grandson, and the journeys in life they share.” It is expected to premiere some time in 2014.
Harmon was fired last may from his duties on 'Community' after executives at NBC felt that some of the show's episodes had "stretched the boundaries of live-action comedy." The higher ups were also reportedly frustrated over conflicts with deadlines and various production details.
A new season of “Community,” under show runners David Guarascio and Moses Port have since taken over as show runners of the NBC comedy. A premiere date for its new season has not yet been announced.
