It's been a tough week for freshman comedies on FOX. According to Variety, the network has given the ax to new entries 'Dads,' 'Enlisted,' 'Surviving Jack' and 'Rake'

In their place, FOX has greenlit four new comedies for the coming season, and it is reported that they will pick up at lease one more, including "Cabot College," executive produced by the '30 Rock' team of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.

Among the four new comedies is an animated entry from Seth MacFarlane titled "Bordertown" and an ensemble sitcom lead by "Saturday Night Live" vet John Mulaney.

Also on tap is "Weird Loners" which follows "a group of commitment-phobic people who wind up living in the same apartment building." Will Forte will round out the newcomers with his new series "Last Man on Earth".

Andy Samberg's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" remains the only freshman comedy to survive Fox's 2013-14 programming slate. The series will return this fall with all-new episodes.
