As first reported on BWW, DANCING WITH THE STARS Season 14 contestant Melissa Gilbert was taken out of the ballroom on a stretcher last night, just moments after she performed the paso doble with dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The actress, who only recently recovered from major back surgery, had reportedly hit the back of her head during a "dramatic drop" in the middle of the routine.

Explained dance pro Val Chemerkovskiy, "One of the tricks she did, she hit her head. But there was adrenaline, so she recovered and everything was good. She came upstairs [to the Dancing skybox, where she did her post-dance interview], she sat down, and then she started getting really dizzy. When there are concussion symptoms, you want to check that out right away."

This morning, Gilbert gave fans a health update on her Twitter account, posting, "I'm alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of."

The actress also sent messages of gratitude to her dancing partner Chmerkovskiy, "@Maksim you are my champion. I adore you," and to her fellow contestant, singer Gavin DeGraw,  "@GavinDeGraw bless your heart for carrying me down those stairs!"

On last night's live show, host Tom Bergeron revealed the news of Gilbert's accident to viewers saying, "She injured herself and as a precaution she's gone to the hospital to get checked out."

The remaining couples from Season 14 will face elimination on tonight's show (9 p.m. ET).
