It's Christmastime year-round in North Pole, Alaska where reindeer are plentiful and the post office receives thousands of children's letters to Santa. In DIY Network's one-hour holiday special BUILDING OFF THE GRID: NORTH POLE, premiering tonight, December 1, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, North Pole's mayor, contractor Bryce Ward, and his team work to handcraft a remote family cabin in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. The special will feature the building process of the 12 ft. by 16 ft. log cabin from start to finish.

Bryce, along with his father Jeff, and their team will need to use ATVs and sleds to haul tools, lumber and supplies to the remote job site located 16 miles from the nearest drivable road. The team will use building materials, including tin roofing, doors and windows, which will withstand the extreme weather and intrusions from unpredictable wildlife. The interior of the cabin will feature wall-to-wall double bunk beds, a small kitchen with propane hook-ups for cooking and a one-of-a-kind steel wood stove that will generate heat during the frigid nights.

When season's first snowfall hits, Bryce will head up to the cabin with family friends to celebrate the finished home. After an evening of cooking on the wood stove, holiday decorating and opening gifts, the group will set out to find the perfect Christmas trees to bring home to their families.

"It's so beautiful here," said Bryce. "I've always dreamed of building a family cabin so we can celebrate the holidays and watch the Northern Lights together. North Pole is a magical place."
