Universal has lined up the debut dates for two it's most anticipated animated features.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DESPICABLE ME 3 has received a June 30, 2017 release, while a new animated spin on Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS is set for Nov. 17, 2017.
Pete Candeland will direct 'GRINCH,' with Illumination Entertainment's CEO Chris Meledandri set to produce. Audrey Geisel will serve as an executive producer on the film.
Seuss' source material has undergone many interpretations, from stage to screen, the Grinch and his tale of holiday redemption has proven timeless to audiences, including Chuck Jones' 1966 original animated version and the 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carrey. The studios are planning on sticking to the book's source material and undertones to differentiate it from the Carrey rendition.
THE GRINCH will be the third Dr. Seuss re-animation, following HORTON HEARS A WHO and THE LORAX. Variety also reports that Illumination is prepping a CAT IN THE HAT adaptation.
Directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin, the DESPICABLE ME 2 was voiced by Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan and Ken Jeong.
DESPICABLE ME 2 featured the return of Gru (Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions...and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.
