DANCING WITH THE STARS' Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Expecting First Child

PEOPLE has shared the joyful news that DANCING WITH THE STARS champs Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are expecting their first child. The couple got engaged in December.

"I can't wait to provide this baby with the tools to become a beautiful, kind person," Chmerkovskiy says in the current issue of PEOPLE. "And they'll have the best sneaker collection."

The dancers learned the news of the pregnancy just weeks into the 22nd Season of the ABC dance competition. "I was so sick," Murgatroyd says of her first months of pregnancy. The dancer went on to bring home the Mirrorball Trophy alongside her celebrity dance partner, model Nyle DiMarco.

Murgatroyd is now accompanying Chmerkovskiy and his brother, Valentin, in Maks & Val: Live on Tour. Though the couple plan to wed next summer, for now, they want to focus their attention on their upcoming arrival. "I'm looking forward to nurturing something and just having the baby be the center of our world," says Murgatroyd. "I'm looking forward to putting all our energy into this beautiful soul."
