This morning on TODAY it was announced that Craig Melvin would be joining the weekday team. See the announcement below!

Craig Melvin was a national correspondent for "TODAY" and previously anchored "MSNBC Live" on Saturdays and Sundays on MSNBC. Melvin serves as a correspondent and fill-in anchor across NBC News and MSNBC properties.

Melvin has covered a wide-range of breaking news events, including the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, the Asiana Airlines 214 crash in July 2013, the George Zimmerman trial, the aftermath of the deadly tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, the Sandy Hook school shooting, and a series of reports on the future of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Since joining NBC News and MSNBC, Melvin has also conducted several news-maker and celebrity interviews including Feidin Santana, eyewitness to the 2015 Walter Scott shooting, and Nicki Minaj's pre-Super Bowl halftime performance interview.

Prior to joining NBC News and MSNBC in July 2011, Melvin was a weekend anchor for WRC, NBC's owned-and-operated station in Washington, DC. Before working at WRC, Melvin earned acclaim as an evening news anchor at WIS in Columbia, South Carolina where he was named "Best Anchor" by the South Carolina Broadcaster's Association and awarded two Emmy Awards.

Melvin is married to ESPN's Lindsay Czarniak and has one son, Delano, born in March of 2014.
