I, Tonya's Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Emma Stone in Disney's live-action film, "Cruella," according to Deadline.
Alex Timbers, co-creator of Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle and the man behind Beetlejuice and Moulin Rouge on Broadway, was going to direct the film, but Disney has decided it needs the movie to start production sooner than it expected to. Pre-production is starting immediately and shooting will begin next year.
Since Timber is bringing Beetlejuice to Broadway and then he moves on to working on the stage version of Moulin Rouge, he will be busy until the show opens next July.
Timbers inability to work with the sped up production schedule opens a sport for Gillespie, who has been working on a remake of the Norwegian thriller Thelma.
The film's script is written by Jez Butterworth. Marc Platt, Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr will produce "Cruella."
