TVGuide.com has confirmed that Steve Carell will not make a guest appearance on the series finale of NBC's THE OFFICE. Showrunner Greg Daniels told reporters on Tuesday that the actor, who portrayed Dunder Mifflin boss Michael Scott for the majority of the series, had Made the decision out of respect for his fellow cast mates.

"I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the 'Goodbye, Michael' episode was his goodbye and he didn't want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved," he explained.

Daniels also hinted that the final episode would be "very similar" to the send off given to the British series on which the comedy is based. Series star John Krasinski also teased that the finale would see the "light at the end of the tunnel" for his character Jim and his fictional wife, Pam.

The one-hour final episode is set to air on May 16 from 9 to 10 p.m. ET, however Daniels hopes the network will consider expanding the running time to "slightly more than 60 minutes."
