A confidential settlement with CSX Transportation has been reached in the wrongful death case involving camera assistant Sarah Jones, who was killed in 2014 while filming the movie "Midnight Rider" in Georgia. A satisfaction of judgment in the case was filed on Jan. 25 in Chatham County State Court in Savannah, Ga.

"This has been a long journey, and we're deeply grateful for the support we've received from family, friends and members of the film community," said Richard Jones, father of Sarah Jones. "We're relieved that the lawsuit has concluded."

This landmark case, which was tried in Chatham County State Court in 2017, brought national attention to safety issues in the film industry and helped launch the Safety for Sarah campaign, which has transformed the industry.

"It has truly been an honor to represent the Jones family and to work to secure justice on behalf of Sarah Jones," said Harris Lowry Manton LLP partner Jeff Harris, the lead trial attorney for the plaintiff. "We hope that no other family will endure the loss of a loved one due to unsafe conditions filming on location or on set."

Harris and the legal team at Harris Lowry Manton LLP represented Richard and Elizabeth Jones, parents of camera assistant Sarah Jones, who was fatally struck by a train while shooting the "Midnight Rider" film near Jesup, Ga. on February 20, 2014. In July of 2017, a jury returned an $11.2 million jury verdict, concluding that the death of the vibrant and talented 27-year-old was the direct result of the negligence of multiple parties, including CSX Transportation.

Jones's death and the ensuing case against CSX prompted an outpouring of grief in the movie industry and galvanized film crew members throughout the entertainment industry, highlighting longstanding concerns about set safety.
