People.com reports that actor and comedian Russell Brand was arrested and taken into police custody yesterday in New Orleans. According to the report, Brand had allegedly grabbed an iPhone out of the hands of a photographer and threw it out the window.

The 36-year-old comic posted $5,000 bail and was soon released according to Garry Flot, spokesman for the New Orleans police.

A paparazzi photographer filed a report with the police on Monday, March 12th, claiming that the actor had snatched his iPhone while he was sitting in a car and threw it out a window, shattering the glass.

On Wednesday, Brand commented on the incident in a post to his Twitter account, saying, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
