Columbia Records will release "The Way, Way Back: Music From The Motion Picture," the soundtrack from the new film from writer/directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, on July 2, 2013. The film will release in select theatres on July 5, 2013 and will expand into a nationwide release throughout the month. The album is currently available for pre-order at http://smarturl.it/twwb.

The collection features a pair of songs written exclusively for the film by acclaimed singer-songwriter Edie Brickell. "For The Time Being" and "Go Where The Love Is," which open and close the movie, are performed by Edie Brickell and the Gaddabouts, Brickell's collaboration with Steve Gadd, Pino Palladino and Andy Fairweather Low. Brickell, who began her career as the lead singer of folk rock group New Bohemians, found success with the band and as a solo artist before founding the Gaddabouts in 2010. Brickell's most recent work a rootsy, 13-track collaboration with Steve Martin titledLove Has Come For You was released in April to widespread acclaim.

Among the songs also included on the soundtrack are "Power Hungry Animals" from Nashville's The Apache Relay and "Alone" from Duluth, MN bluegrass band Trampled By Turtles, which both highlight poignant moments in the film. The collection also features "Shine" from Chicago-based sibling duo Wild Belle, whose debut album "Isle" was released earlier this year, and includes classic songs from Mr. Mister, INXS and Robert Palmer alongside contemporary music from Ben Kweller and Army Navy. Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, co-writers of "The Descendants," produced the soundtrack along with music supervisor Linda Cohen, and carefully chose a mix of older classics and more recent music that transcends genres.

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan's (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverTed Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world all during a summer he will never forget. The film, which also stars Allison Janney, AnnaSophia Robb, Maya Rudolph, Rob Corddry and Amanda Peet, will be released in select cities by Fox Searchlight Pictures on July 5 before opening wider through the rest of the month.
