dick clark productions and ABC announced today that Coldplay, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Gwen Stefani will perform at the "2015 American Music Awards," the world's biggest fan-voted award show. Coldplay's appearance will mark the U.S. television debut of the first single, "Adventure Of A Lifetime," from their new album A Head Full of Dreams (out Dec 4); Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will premiere a new song for the first time ever on television; and Gwen Stefani will perform her hit song "Used to Love You." They join previously announced host and performer Jennifer Lopez, as well as 5 Seconds of Summer, Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, One Direction, Carrie Underwood, WALK THE MOON; duets from Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth, and Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town; and the legendary Star Wars score to be performed by pop super group Pentatonix and a full symphony orchestra. The "2015 American Music Awards" will broadcast live on Sunday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m., ET on ABC.
Coldplay is a six-time American Music Award nominee in the categories of Alternative Artist (2003, 2005 and 2008), Favorite Pop/Rock Album (2008), Favorite Pop Rock Group (2008) and Artist of the Year (2008). This will be the band's second AMA performance after last performing "Lovers in Japan" in 2008.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, six-time American Music Award nominees, took home the titles of Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album in 2013. Also in 2013, they were nominated for New Artist of the Year Presented by Kohl's, Single of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Group and Artist of the Year. They performed their hit song "Can't Hold Us" via satellite at the "2013 American Music Awards."
Gwen Stefani won Favorite Pop/Rock female in 2005 and was also nominated for the T-Mobile Text-In Award that year. Stefani was nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist as part of No Doubt in 1997. This will be Stefani's third American Music Award performance, having previously taken the stage in 2005 to perform "Can I Have It Like That" with Pharrell and in 2012 to perform "Looking Hot" as part of No Doubt.
Formed nearly 20 years ago in London, England, Coldplay has become one of the most successful rock bands in history. They achieved worldwide fame in 2000 with their single "Yellow," and in 2014 their sixth studio album, Ghost Stories, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. With sales of 383,474 copies in its first week, it was the band's fourth-consecutive studio album to top the Billboard 200. On December 4, the band will release their widescreen seventh album, A Head Full Of Dreams, an album that's bursting with energy, colour and big, life-affirming moments, such as the deliciously ebullient first single, "Adventure Of A Lifetime." This marks the first performance since 2008 that the six-time American Music Award nominated group returns to the AMA stage.
Seattle-based hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis recently released "Downtown," the first single from their follow up to The Heist, their multiple Grammy Award-winning, platinum-selling debut album. "Downtown," which features Eric Nally and hip-hop pioneers Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee and Melle Mel, has been performed on the VMA's and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and the video has been viewed nearly 60 million times on YouTube. It was certified GOLD with over 500,000 in sales in the US, selling over 1 million tracks worldwide. Album cut, "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)" featuring Ed Sheeran was released in August. The song was written before the birth of Macklemore's first child and is dedicated to his daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty. More details on the forthcoming album to come.
Gwen Stefani has achieved worldwide success as a performer, songwriter and recording artist, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide with No Doubt and as a multi-platinum solo artist. Stefani released two highly successful solo albums - "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" and "The Sweet Escape" - featuring hit singles "Rich Girl," "Sweet Escape," "What Are You Waiting For?" and "Hollaback Girl," a No. 1 single she recorded with Pharrell Williams that became the first digital download to sell more than 1 million copies in the United States. With her debut as a coach for the seventh season of "The Voice," Stefani released "Baby Don't Lie" and re-united with Pharell to release the high-energy collaboration "Spark The Fire." In addition to her singing-songwriting career, Stefani is widely recognized as a trendsetter and accomplished designer within the fashion industry, launching several successful brands, including L.A.M.B., Harajuku Lovers, DWP and GX.
