Les Misérables is the longest-running musical in the world, the third longest-running show in Broadway history and has been seen by over 53 million people in 38 countries and 21 languages since its first London performance in October 1985.

The original Broadway production opened in 1987, at the Broadway Theatre, winning seven Tony Awards that season, including Best Musical. It has won over 50 major theatre awards. Its Tony® Award-winning score includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," and "On My Own." Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil have created some of the most successful musicals of all time during their continued creative collaboration.

Boublil (music) and Schonberg (music and book) wrote Les Misérables with lyricist Herbert Kretzmer (based on the French ones of Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel). Together, they also wrote Miss Saigon,  Martin Guerre, The Pirate Queen and the recent West End production, Marguerite which starred Ruthie Henshall in the title role.
