The classic Western The Magnificent Seven leads the abbreviated December lineup on
Reel 13. The film, a Wild West remake of the 1954 Japanese language film The Seven Samurai, was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Its iconic Academy Award-nominated score by Elmer Bernstein garnered the music a place on the American Film Institute's list of the top 25 American film scores.
A star-studded remake starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawk, Matt Bomer among others is expected to be released next fall

Night Catches Us and Sunset Stories are the month's independent offerings. The series is pre-empted for special pledge programming on December 5 and December 12.

Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Hollywood Classic followed by an Indie, with film historian Neal Gabler or Columbia University professor Richard Peña hosting on a film-by-film basis. The evening concludes with a Short film selected by viewers who vote for their favorite of three shorts at Reel13.org.
