CBS News Foreign Correspondent Clarissa Ward reports from inside Syria and speaks with the first rebel commander to shoot down a government fighter jet. The report will be broadcast tonight, April 1 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH Scott Pelley (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
In tonight's report, Jamal Maarouf, a rebel leader widely credited with being the first to shoot down a government fighter jet, gives Ward a tour of a war-torn city in northern Syria. Just hours after leaving, government planes dropped six parachute bombs on the village close to where Ward and Maarouf were staying, killing two women and a girl. Maarouf says that he believes a no-fly zone imposed by the United States could help end the fighting in Syria. "Right now, we still don't have a no-fly zone, and the regime is using long-range missiles," he tells Ward. "If we had a no-fly zone, we could take down the regime in a matter of weeks."Videos
