CBS News Foreign Correspondent Clarissa Ward reports from inside Syria and speaks with the first rebel commander to shoot down a government fighter jet. The report will be broadcast tonight, April 1 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH Scott Pelley (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

In tonight's report, Jamal Maarouf, a rebel leader widely credited with being the first to shoot down a government fighter jet, gives Ward a tour of a war-torn city in northern Syria. Just hours after leaving, government planes dropped six parachute bombs on the village close to where Ward and Maarouf were staying, killing two women and a girl. Maarouf says that he believes a no-fly zone imposed by the United States could help end the fighting in Syria.

"Right now, we still don't have a no-fly zone, and the regime is using long-range missiles," he tells Ward. "If we had a no-fly zone, we could take down the regime in a matter of weeks."

Ward will provide additional reports from inside Syria this week on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH Scott Pelley.

Patricia Shevlin is the Executive Producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH Scott Pelley.
