Christina Applegate, Jenna Elfman, Sarah Hyland, Paula Abdul, Mary Murphyand Elizabeth Berkley stepped forward as presenters at the annual Dizzy Feet Foundation gala to provide dance scholarships and opportunities to youth. The event was founded by International Emmy® Award-winning producer and So You Think You Can Dance co-creator Nigel Lythgoe and director Adam Shankman (Hairspray, Rock of Ages). EMMY nominated husband-and-wife dancers and choreographers Stephen "tWitch" Boss and Allison Holker also took center stage at the event.
Jenna Elfman, Paula Abdul and Mary Murphy were in the spotlight as they were auctioned off as dance partners for lucky bidders, all in the name of helping young people of limited means gain access to the life-changing benefits of dance. They took to the dance floor with the winning bidders and even danced with each other.
Jenna Ushkowitz and Mark Salling from GLEE introduced a group of student performers from Lima North Middle School in remembrance of their late GLEE co-star Cory Monteith.
The gala showcased influencers in dance, and included performances from talent on So You Think You Can Dance, the Step Up films, Diavolo Dance, Syncopated Ladies, Ailey II and many others.
This year's DFF Inspiration Award was presented to Debbie Allen. The DFF Inspiration Award is awarded annually to an individual whose dance prowess, talent, and gifts have delighted audiences and whose career in film, television, and/or theater has left an indelible mark on the entertainment field.
Patricia Ward Kelly presented the Gene Kelly Legacy Award to Pierre Dulaine & Yvonne Marceau, which is given to an artist/s whose career achievements best represent the innovative vision, creativity, and lasting contribution that Gene Kelly made not only to the art of dance on film but to the world as a whole, as an educator and cultural ambassador.
Red Bull received the DFF Impact Award, presented for support of dance and the arts that has had a major impact in terms of community, culture, and country.
All proceeds from the gala's ticket sales will benefit The Dizzy Feet Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is threefold: to sponsor, fund, and/or support dance education programs that expose children in low-income areas to the lifelong benefits of dance education through and with local community organizations; to provide scholarships to talented students studying at accredited or nationally regarded dance schools, studios, or institutions; and in conjunction with recognized credentialing organizations, to support and increase the quality of all styles of dance education in the United States.
