The upcoming big screen adaptation of JUSTICE LEAGUE will officially go on without Christian Bale.
The actor, lauded for his portrayal as Batman in Christopher Nolan's DARK KNIGHT trilogy, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly today that he would not be appearing in the film, which could reportedly hit theaters as early as 2015.
"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That's enough. Let's not get greedy," Bale told Entertainment Weekly. "Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying 'We're about to make the third.' We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well."
He also confirmed to EW that he hasn't even been approached for the project.
"I have no information, no knowledge about anything," he said. "I've literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that's it. It's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with."
For Bale's entire interview, head on over to Entertainment Weekly.
At one point, such directors as Ridley Scott, David Yates, Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder were rumored to be in consideration to helm - all reportedly passed.
JUSTICE LEAGUE will feature a team of DC Comics superheroes including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Aquaman. The studio hopes to match the success of this year's blockbuster hit 'The Avengers', also based on comic book heroes. Will Beall is writing the script.
