Chris Cornell's Funeral to Be Held May 26th in Los Angeles

CNN reports that the funeral of the recently deceased Chris Cornell will be held in Los Angeles on May 26th. Cornell's body will be flown from Michigan to LA and he will be interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell passed away late Wednesday evening, May 17th at the age of 52. He died in Detroit after performing with his longtime band Soundgarden. Hid death was ruled a suicide by hanging potentially contributed to in part by prescription drug use.

A rep for the singer issued the following statement early this morning: "Chris Cornell passed away late Wednesday night in Detroit, MI. His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause. They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time."

The Recording Academy issued the following statement on Cornell's death:

A two-time GRAMMY® Award winner, Chris' dynamic stage presence and impressive vocal range made him a true rock-and-roll icon. From the international success he achieved as the founder and lead vocalist of Soundgarden, to fronting the GRAMMY-nominated supergroup, Audioslave, Chris' extraordinary talent will forever live on and inspire fellow musicians and fans worldwide. We have lost an innovative member of our creative community, and our sincerest condolences go out to Chris' family, friends, collaborators, and all who have been impacted by his outstanding artistry.
