Newsman Charlie Rose yesterday confirmed rumors in the New York Times that he is having "serious conversations" about joining the team of the CBS EARLY SHOW in some capacity.
"We've talked about a whole range of things," he said to the Times. But he stressed that he would not "under any circumstances" give up his news program on PBS. Rose has had a long-time relationship with CBS News. In 1999, he joined 60 MINUTES II as a correspondent and still does occasional pieces for 60 MINUTES.
It was also reported yesterday in The New York Post that talk show host Gayle King may be coming to the CBS morning show. The CBS show has been in a distant third place in the morning, trailing far behind NBC's Today and ABC's Good Morning America. CBS News chairman Jeff Fager and president David Rhodes have been outspoken about their plans to get the show out of its ratings slump.
