Deadline.com reports that News Corp COO Chase Carey revealed to Wall Street analysts last week that the long-running reality series AMERICAN IDOL will undergo a host of creative changes when it returns next season."Our challenge for next year is to put some fresh energy in," said Carey,"we probably didn't do enough this year."

Confirming the news, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said at this morning's Fox upfronts conference call that the show will see "some creative tweaking" next season. He declined to give further details but acknowledged that FOX had failed to do enough to prevent this season's ratings slide. He noted that ratings had "dropped more than anticipated" this year.

Fox entertainment president Peter Rice responded to questions about the Idol judge's performance, commenting that they were "terrific and have great chemistry and integrity." Rice would not confirm recent reports that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato would be joining Fox's other singing reality series, The X Factor, as new judges.
