Casting Roundup: Ed Harris, Malin Akerman, and More in New Films

Entertainment Weekly, brought a whole roundup of casting news this week, featuring big name stars, indie films, and more.

Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, and Andy Garcia may be in the film GEOSTORM. The current cast of the sci-fi adventure flick includes Gerard Butler, who is playing a satellite designer who has to find a way to work with his brother to sae the world following a satellite malfunction. Sturgess may be playing Butler's brother, Cornish would be Sturgess' Secret Service agent girlfriend, Harris would be the secretary of state, and Garcia would be the president. Independence Day co-writer Dan Devlin is set to direct GEOSTORM.

Trophy Wife's Malin Akerman will be in Indie drama, THE TICKET, also starring Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens, which is currently filming in upstate New York. Akerman will be playing the Steven's character's ex-wife. Stevens plays a blind man who becomes able to see, then becomes metaphorically blind when he becomes obsessed with mindless details in life. THE TICKET is directed by Ido Fluk.

Insidious' Ty Simpkins will join the psychological drama MEADOWLAND which also features the talents of Olivia Wilde, Luke Wilson, and Elizabeth Moss. Simpkins will play Adam, a special needs child who attends the school at which Wilde's character works. Reed Morano is set to direct.

Katie Aselton, of The League, joins Matthew McConaughey, Naomi Watts and Ken Watanabe in the drama SEA OF TREES. McConaughey and Watanabe play two men who meet in "Suicide Forest" in Japan and thus go on a journey together. Watts plays McConaughey's wife, and Aselton plays someone who McConaughey's character has an affair with.

Dean Ambrose will lead WWE Studios' action feature, LOCKDOWN, directed by Stephen Reynolds. With script by Nathan Brooks and Bobby Lee Darby, LOCKDOWN is about a good police officer fleeing some back cops.

Edy Ganem, of Devious Maids will play the title role in ANA MARIA, an Indie film about a receptionist who somehow ends up in the world of a telenovela. Georgina Riedel directs and has co-written the script with Jose Marquez.

Charlie Carver is set to join James Franco in MICHAEL, a drama about a gay activist who is supposedly drawn away from homosexuality by God and turns to being a pastor instead. Carver plays a guy who is disappointed in Michael's decision. Also in the film are Zachary Quinto and Emma Roberts, with director Justin Kelly.

Jericho's Alicia Coppola has joined Zac Efron in WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, directed by Max Joseph, about a DJ who falls for his mentor's young girlfriend.

JAG's David James Elliot will portray John Wayne in TRUMBO, a biopic about screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, starring Bryan Cranston. Also joining thre cast are Peter Mackenzie and Roger Bart, who play defense attorney Robert Kenny and producer Buddy Ross, respectively. Previously announced stars include Diane Lane playing Trumbo's wife, Helen Mirren as a gossip writer Hedda Hopper, John Goodman as producer Frnak King, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Edward G. Robinson. The film is directed by Jay Roach.
