Before Robert Sargent Shriver Jr. passed away today at the age of 95, Caroline Kennedy spoke exclusively with NBC News' BrIan Williams. During the interview, Kennedy discussed Shriver's importance to the Kennedy family and his dedication to a life of service.

Below is an excerpt from the exclusive interview that aired tonight on "NBC Nightly News." Additional portions of the interview will air tomorrow, January 19th on "NBC Nightly News." Bob Epstein is the executive producer of "NBC Nightly News with BrIan Williams." Aurelia Grayson and Jamie Kraft are the senior broadcast producers.

This interview was conducted before Caroline learned of Robert Sargent Shriver Jr.'s passing. More of Brian's exclusive interview will air on "NBC Nightly News" tomorrow- Wednesday, January 19th at 6:30 pm/et.

Caroline Kennedy: Sarge Shriver is just a giant in our family. And, and such a wonderful man, and, loving and devout, and I think he really put his, his faith and his love for his wife, my Aunt Eunice, into action every single day in an extraordinary way. Both believed in the political process as well as well as life of service in so many other ways.
