Variety reports that Joel McHale, best known for his starring role on NBC's "Community" will be the headline entertainment for this year's White House Correspondents Association dinner scheduled for May 3.
Steven Thomma, president of the WHCA said in a statement, "We're thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial. He's sharp, funny, and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media. Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing."
In recent years, the WHCA event has become a fundraiser for journalism scholarships and awards for excellence in coverage of the White House.In addition to his TV roles, McHale has voiced Elliot in the film Open Season 2 and has appeared in Spider-Man 2, CSI: Miami, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.
