Last week, BWW reported that Hulu had abandoned its plan to acquire the NBC comedy COMMUNITY. But today, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the series has found a home on Yahoo Screen, and just in time! Sony Pictures Television stated earlier that the actors' contracts were set to expire today, June 30.
COMMUNITY will air 13 new episodes beginning this fall.
Series creator Dan Harmon and stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash are all set to return, along with original executive producers Russ Krasnoff, Gary Foster and Chris McKenna.
"I am very pleased that COMMUNITY will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo," Harmon said. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!"
About COMMUNITY: "Community" is an ensemble comedy that centers around a tight-knit group of friends who all met at what is possibly the world's worst educational institution - Greendale Community College.
At the center of the group is Jeff Winger (Joel McHale, "The Soup"), a fast-talking lawyer who was caught with a phony college degree. Winger was dis-barred until he could earn a legitimate degree and chose Greendale, thinking he could breeze through the mediocre school without a hitch. He, however, soon found himself the reluctant leader of a disparate group of misfits, all stuck at Greendale for different reasons.Photo Credit: Vivian Zink/NBC
