According to the New York Post, funnyman Stephen Colbert has temporarily shut down production of his Comedy Central talk show THE COLBERT REPORT due to the failing health of his 91-year-old mother, Lorna Colbert. The nature of her medical issues have not been revealed.  Yesterday it had been reported that the show was being cancelled due to "unforseen circumstances".

The host is the youngest of 11 children. When he was 10, his father and two older brothers were tragically killed in a 1974 airplane crash. Explains a source close to the show, “They are a very private family. It’s not surprising that he did not want anyone to know what was going on.”

Comedy Central will air repeat episodes of the show until further notice. A spokesman commented that the show will return "soon", possibly as early as next week.
