The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is the only network evening news broadcast to deliver year-to-year ratings increases among adults 25-54 (1.6/06 from 1.5/06, +7%) - the demographic most important to those who advertise in News - according to Nielsen most current ratings for the 2012-2013 television season. The CBS EVENING NEWS finished the season in its closest competitive position to second place in adults 25-54 in 18 years (since the 1994-1995 season). Only 0.1 of a rating point separates the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY from second-place ABC.
The
CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY added nearly half a million viewers (+490,000) compared to last season - its largest year-to-year viewer gain in 15 years (since the 1997-1998 season) and the largest year-to-year viewer increase for any network evening news broadcast in 11 years (since the 2001-2002 season). The
CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY also cut the viewer deficit with
ABC by nearly a quarter of a million viewers (from 1.44m to 1.21m) compared to last year.
This season marks the second consecutive season of viewer growth for the
CBS broadcast - the first time the
CBS broadcast has accomplished this in more than a decade. Additionally, the
CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is the only network evening news broadcast to post viewer gains over the last two seasons.
The
CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY also posted the largest year-to-year percentage increases among viewers (6.71m from 6.22m, +8%) and households (4.5/09 from a 4.2/08, +7%) among the network evening news broadcasts for the 2012-2013 television season. The
CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY posted its best season delivery in both viewers and households in six years (since the 2006-2007 season).
