48 HOURS: BLOOD IN THE SAND" was Saturday's #1 prime program with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for April 30.
At 10:00 PM,
48 HOURS was #1 in viewers (5.16 million) and adults 24-54 (1.1/04, tied with NBC), the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news. Compared to the same night last year,
48 HOURS was up +1% in viewers.
Saturday's broadcast featured Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS's investigation into the murder of two teenaged girls, on the same California beach six years apart, and the DNA evidence found on one of the victims that would turn the case upside down when it led to two suspects - one of them inside the police department. It's a story about families struggling from the painful loss of loved ones, the long-held guilt of those who couldn't help the victims and the impact on those being investigated.
Police had few clues to go on but they were convinced the cases were connected. The cases went cold until 2012, when police got hits on DNA they had from one of the victims. The DNA indicated one of the suspects was a man who had once worked in the crime lab for the San Diego police Department, but he wasn't the only suspect. Under the pressure of suspicion, Brown's attorneys and wife say the lab worker committed suicide. His wife is now suing the San Diego Police Department for mishandling the investigation.
48 HOURS: "Blood in the Sand" is produced by Lourdes Aguiar and Cindy Cesare. Greg Fisher is the development producer. Atticus Brady and Ken Blum are the editors. Peter Schweitzer is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
