CBS News' 48 HOURS: "Mystery on Twin Peaks Drive" (R) (10:00-11:00 PM) was first in households and viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Saturday, Dec. 22. "Mystery on Twin Peaks Drive" posted a 3.1/06 with 4.38m viewers.
Saturday's broadcast featured Peter Van Sant and the 48 HOURS team's updated report on the death of Ronda Reynolds, who was found shot dead in her Toledo, Wash., home in 1998. Her husband said it was a suicide and eventually the coroner's office called it one, too. Ronda's mother, Barb Thompson, didn't believe it was suicide and launched her own investigation. She turned to true-crime writer Ann Rule for help.
Eventually, the case was reexamined in a rare coroner's inquest called to decide whether Ronda Reynolds committed suicide or was killed. The inquest found she was killed and that Ron and his son,
Jonathan Reynolds, were responsible. Arrest warrants were issued, but within hours the prosecutor said he would not prosecute the case because evidence was destroyed. Now free, Ron and Jonathan continue to maintain their innocence, while Thompson and Rule continue to say Ronda's death was murder.
"Mystery on Twin Peaks Drive" is produced by Susan Mallie, Dena Goldstein and Mead Stone. Update producers are
Linda Martin and Suzanne Allen. Al Briganti is the executive editor. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
