CBS SUNDAY MONRING & Primetime Broadcasts Win May Sweeps in Key Demos

CBS News' primetime and Sunday morning broadcasts closed out the 2014-2015 televisions season with key news demo and viewer wins, according to Nielsen's most current ratings for the season. CBS News' primetime and Sunday morning news broadcasts also notched key demo and viewer wins for the May sweep.

Based on Nielsen ratings to date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD and FACE THE NATION WITH BOB SCHIEFFER each delivered its largest May sweep audience since the 1987 advent of people meters, while CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY delivered the largest May sweep audience in the time period for the Network ever.

Elsewhere, 60 MINUTES finished the season as the #1 primetime news magazine with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news and viewers. 48 HOURS finished the season and the May sweep as Saturday's #1 non-sports broadcast with adults 25-54 and viewers.

For the most recent week, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY delivered year-to-year gains in viewers, while CBS THIS MORNING delivered year-to-year gains in viewers, adults 25-54 and women 18-49.

CBS News broadcasts last week featured such original reporting as Bob Schieffer's interview with former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates; Charlie Rose's profile of photographer Sally Mann; Jane Pauley's interview with David Letterman; Don Dahler's reports on the BOSTON MARATHON bomber trial; Peter Van Sant's investigation into the death of a Pennsylvania woman and the more than three-decade search for her killer; and Scott Pelley's story on the progress of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Here's a recap of the latest CBS News ratings information:

60 MINUTES finished the 2014-2015 television season as the #1 primetime news program with adults 25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen most current ratings. The broadcast delivered 12.38 million viewers and 2.7/07 with adults 25-54.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY posted year-to-year gains in viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending May 15, 2015. CBS EVENING NEWS was up +2% in viewers (6.66m from 6.52m) compared to the same week last year. Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +2% in viewers (7.24m from 7.12m) compared to last season.

FACE THE NATION WITH BOB SCHIEFFER finished the 2014-2015 television season #1 in adults 25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen most current ratings. FACE THE NATION posted its largest audience delivery since the 1987 advent of people meters. The broadcast delivered 3.43 million viewers and a 0.8/04 with adults 25-54. Compared to last season, FACE THE NATION is up +5% in viewers (from 3.27m) and even in adults 25-54 (0.8/04). FACE THE NATION also posted its largest May sweep audience (3.24m) since 1987.

CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning news program to post year-to-year gains among adults 25-54 (+13%, 0.9/07 from 0.8/06), viewers (+18%, 3.67m from 3.12m) and women 18-49 (+20%, 0.6/06 from 0.5/04) when compared to a year ago, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending May 15, 2015. CBS THIS MORNING gained more than half a million viewers (+550,000) compared to the same week last year, and closed the viewer deficit with NBC by 690,000 viewers.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD finished the 2014-2015 television season as the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen most current ratings. CBS SUNDAY MORNING posted its best season delivery in viewers since the 1987 advent of people meters. It delivered 6.06 million viewers. CBS SUNDAY MORNING also finished the May sweep as the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers.

48 HOURS finished the 2014-2015 season as Saturday's #1 non-sports broadcast with adults 25-54 and viewers, according to Nielsen most current ratings. 48 HOURS delivered 5.85 million viewers and a 1.5/05 with adults 25-54. 48 HOURS also finished the May sweep as Saturday's #1 non-sports program with adults 25-54 and viewers.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY finished the 2014-15 television season as the only Saturday morning network news broadcast to post year-to-year gains in adults 25-54 (+20%, 0.6/04 from 0.5/04) and viewers (+8%, 2.11m from 1.96m), according to Nielsen most current ratings. The broadcast also finished the May sweep up +20% in adults 25-54 (0.6/04 from 0.5/04) and +13% in viewers (2.09m from 1.85m) compared to last May, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY posted the best May sweep delivery for a CBS Saturday morning news program since 2006 in adults 25-54 and best to date in viewers.
