CBS Picks Up MADAME SECRETARY Drama Pilot

Deadline writes that CBS has picked up a Secretary of State drama MADAME SECRETARY from Barbara Hall (Joan of Arcadia) and Morgan Freeman.

Hall will pen the script, which centers on "a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life".

This is CBS's first drama pilot pickup of the season.

Aside from Joan of Arcadia, Hall's other writing credits include Homeland, Marry Me, Judging Amy, Northern Exposure, I'll Fly Away, and more. She has worked as producer on all of the aforementioned series, as well as Army Wives and the TV movies Demons and Ultra.

Freeman's upcoming acting projects include The Lego Movie, Transcendance, Lucy, Dolphin Tale 2, We the People, The Last Knights and Life Itself. His recent big screen credits include Last Vegas, Oblivion, Olympus Has Fallen, The Dark Knight Rises, Dolphin Tale, Invictus and more. As a producer, Freeman has overseen the TV documentary series Through the Wormhole, Curiosity and 30 for 30, as well as the films Life Itself, Invictus, The Maiden Heist, Levity and more.
