CBS News Justice and Homeland Security Correspondent Bob Orr reports on a stealth drug smuggling operation involving "drug subs" – semi-submarine vessels used to carry millions of dollars' worth of cocaine into the United States. The report will be broadcast tonight, Dec. 12 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
In tonight's report, Orr goes inside Bigfoot Two, a 60-foot semi-submarine captured by the U.S. Coast Guard in the Caribbean in 2008 while carrying $150 million worth of cocaine. Coast Guard Commander Tom Walsh tells Orr that the hard-to-detect vessels have become the vehicle of choice for drug runners. Authorities are concerned that terrorists could also use them."That's a very big concern of ours," Walsh said. "These vessels would certainly be of value to terrorist organizations that want to move people or equipment or other items toward the United States."Videos
