The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY remains the only network evening news broadcast to grow its audience year-to-year (+5% in viewers, 6.82m from 6.48m), according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 23.

The CBS broadcast added +340,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY also continues to close the viewership gap with its competitors; the CBS broadcast cut the viewer deficit with NBC by 620,000 viewers and with ABC by 440,000 viewers.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is also the only network evening news broadcast to post season-to-date viewer gains (+6%, 6.81m from 6.44m). Season-to-date, the CBS broadcast maintained its rating in adults 25-54 (1.3/05) compared to last season.

Editor's Note: Ratings for the week ending Oct. 23 and the year-ago comparison represent a four-day average (Monday-Wednesday, Friday) as the broadcast aired under an amended title on Thursday due to THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

On last week's broadcasts, Vinita Nair investigated an unusual number of rare cancers in a St. Louis community; John Dickerson and Major Garrett reported on Vice President Joe Biden's decision not to run for president; Jeff Pegues covered the email breach involving CIA Director John Brennan; Nancy Cordes was on Capitol Hill as Hillary Clinton testified at the Benghazi Committee hearing; and a team of correspondents covered Hurricane Patricia.

Steve Capus is the Executive Producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and Executive Editor of CBS News.
