CBS EVENING NEWS Posts Largest % Gains in Key News Demographics

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY posted the largest percentage gains of the network evening news broadcasts in key news demographics for the week ending Oct. 30, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +8% in adults 25-54 (1.4/06 from 1.3/05) - the demographic most important to those who advertise in news -and up +9% in viewers (7.25m from 6.67m) compared to the same week last year. The CBS broadcast added +580,000 viewers compared to last year and posted its best viewer delivery since the week ending March 6, 2015.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY closed the viewership gap with NBC by 760,000 viewers and with ABC by 200,000 viewers. Additionally, in the key adults 25-54 demographic, CBS is behind ABC by only -0.2 ratings points and just -0.3 ratings points behind NBC.

Editor's Note: Ratings for the week ending Oct. 30 and the year-ago comparison represent a four-day average (Monday-Wednesday, Friday) as the broadcast aired under an amended title on Thursday due to THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

On last week's broadcasts, Dr. Jon LaPook reported on a World Health Organization study about processed meat and cancer; Adrianna Diaz was in Oklahoma following a fatal parade crash; Jim Axelrod and Omar Villafranca covered the violent arrest of a student in South Carolina; Chip Reid reported on the RUNAWAY military blimp; Nancy Cordes was on Capitol Hill as new House Speaker Paul Ryan was sworn in; and David Martin, Mike Morrell and Elizabeth Palmer explained the role of U. S. troops in Syria.
